EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Two teens are in jail Wednesday after they broke into South Effingham Middle School late Tuesday night.

Effingham County Sheriff's deputies responded to the school after the alarm sounded shortly before midnight.

When deputies were searching the school, they found two males inside. The two suspects fled on foot.

"One suspect, Elliot Conner Boyle, 18, of Guyton, jumped in a nearby pond," said Sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoor.

Boyle refused to come out of the pond for a period of time.

"Once Boyle came out of the pond, he had to be taken to Memorial Health University Center for hypothermia," said Ehsanipoor.

Boyle was arrested early Wednesday morning after he was discharged from the hospital.

The second suspect, Michael Wegmann, 18, of Guyton, surrendered to investigators late Wednesday morning.

Both are being held in the Effingham County Jail on burglary charges.
