Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office say a woman charged with kidnapping admitted to trying to keep an 8-day-old boy for herself.
Deputies say the baby was abducted in Ladson on Wednesday and was found safe a couple hours later.
32-year-old April Michelle Hernandez Del-Rio was given a $100,000 bond Thursday afternoon.
The sheriff's office says the incident happened at the CVS on Highway 78 in Ladson around 3:50 p.m. Wednesday.
According to an incident report, the baby boy and his mother were driven to CVS by Del-Rio. The mother then went inside to pick up medication. The mother says she went inside for about 10 minutes.
The mother said when she returned from the store, she saw that the car, her baby and Del-Rio were gone.
Deputies say Del-Rio's vehicle, a white Pontiac Bonneville, was later spotted at the victim's home, but by the time officials arrived it was gone.
CCSO investigators say the car involved in the abduction was located in the Ladson area around 6:24 p.m. Wednesday. Officials conducted a traffic stop and found Del-Rio and the 8-day-old baby inside the car.
Deputies say the child appeared to be in good health, but was transported to Trident Hospital for precautions.
The mother, who doesn't speak English said she was not friends with Del-Rio but knew her from the neighborhood.
She said she usually doesn't trust people and doesn't know why it happened. The mother says Del-Rio didn't seem like the type of person who would take a child.
