Southbound Brewing Co. now offering tours, tastings

Posted: Updated:

Savannah's first production micro-brewery began offering tours and tastings to the public Wednesday.

Southbound Brewing Company opened its doors last year, but had to clear a few hurdles to get to this point.

Starting Wednesday, the brewery will offer the public the opportunity to come and tour the facility and sample some of Southbound's unique craft brews.

The tour shows people how the beer is made, and by whom. The tours and tastings are free, but $10 gets you a souvenir glass for your beer samples.

Getting to this point wasn't easy. Southbound had to get new legislation adopted and passed by the city council and bring the facility up to code, making areas ADA compliant.

"Tours and tastings have been a long road coming. Finally we'll be able to have people here," said founder Smith Matthews. "We've been wanting to do this all along, and finally the brewery is ready and we have all the legislation passed that we need to get it going so it should be pretty fun."

Tours and tastings will be held Wednesdays-Fridays from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 2-4 p.m.
