The owner/operator of a group of rooming units was charged Wednesday after West Chatham Precinct officers served a search warrant.
Russel Stephen Vernedoe, 66, owner of the Arbor Cottages, was charged with possession of methamphetamines, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of firearms by a convicted felon. Officers also found electronics that are being investigated.
Arbor Cottages has been the subject of multiple court cases after the SCMPD's Crime Free Housing Unit found various code violations.
Varnedoe was given multiple chances to bring the units up to code requirements by a Recorder's Court Judge who cited concerns for the tenants, many of whom had few other places to move.
The investigation into the case is being handled by West Chatham detectives and is ongoing.
