Ga. Power offers energy saving tips during cold

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

As cold weather and wind chills drop, Georgia Power reminds customers how they can lessen the impact it will have on their energy bills.

Georgia Power offers these tips:

Set thermostat to 68 degrees or lower and maintain a consistent temperature in the house.

Open curtains and shades on the sunny side of the home to let the sun heat the home.

Remove items standing near heating vents.

Caulk or weather strip around doors and windows. Insulate the steps that go to the attic. Heat rises and uninsulated attic steps allow warm air to escape.

Georgia Power's new My Power Usage program allows customers go online to check their usage status, including what time of day they're consuming the most power, daily overall usage and get a projected look of their upcoming bill.
