Beaufort County is considering five proposals for attendance zones, and families got a chance to check them out Thursday at Okatie Elementary.
The school board removed one proposal and was asked to combine two others.
"I wish there were a silver bullet out there for a plan that would fit everyone's expectations, but unfortunately, anytime you redistrict, it becomes an emotional issue," said Beaufort County Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Moss. "It's very unlikely that we'll have a plan that will satisfy parents and the parameters within the board of education guidelines."
"We are heavily, heavily invested in that community," said Moss Creek resident Billy Gray. "That community will lose people that are heavily invested. We are residents, we have invested money in homes to remain in that school disctrict."
Those especially concerned, parents like Gray, want their children to stay on Hilton Head Island instead of changing to Bluffton.
There is one more meeting on the zones, which will be held Jan. 30 at 4:30 p.m. at Okatie Elementary.
