Chowder Challenge to take place in Lowcountry

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Hilton Head Island's Mayor Drew Laughlin will be one of the judges at the Chowder Challenge this weekend in the Lowcountry. 

A total of 11 restaurants will prepare their signature chowder for the public to sample, and a team of judges, including the mayor, will determine the winners. 

Participating restaurants include Aunt Chilada's, Captain Woody's, Hilton Head Brewing Company, Jump and Phil's, Kenny B's, One Hot Momma's, Reilley's, Smokehouse, Steamer's, The Boardroom, and The Lodge.   

The event is Saturday at Reilley's Plaza on Sea Pines Circle from noon to 4 p.m. 

Tickets are $5 and include the first sampling of chowder. Children ages 12 under are admitted for free. Beverages will be available for purchase. 

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Heather Trew Foundation for Organ Donation and Research.
