BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

Students from Bluffton Elementary School were evacuated to another wing because of a fire near the school, according to school district spokesman Jim Foster.

Around 1:30 p.m. the Bluffton Township Fire District responded to a brush fire in the tree line behind the Bluffton High School- Bluffton Elementary School campus.

The fire was near the early childhood development center, and with the winds, the fire began to move quickly. Children were moved away from the wing closest to the fire.

"The wing behind us here housed the 5th graders at Bluffton Elementary school," said Communications Director Jim Foster. "Another wing over here housed another group of students. There were a hundred students total. They were moved from this part of the school nearest to the flames to another part of the school for about an hour. A hundred kids were moved back."

All students and faculty are safe and students are back in class.

According to Bluffton Township Fire Capt. Randy Hunter, the fire is under control and crews are taking care of remaining hot spots. They are putting water down in the wooded area between Bluffton Elementary and Bluffton High School.
