Starved dog nursed back to health

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A man is facing animal cruelty charges after Liberty County Animal Control rescued a malnourished dog from an abandoned home. Juicy, the mastiff bulldog mix, is now being nursed back to health at the Humane Society of Greater Savannah where she was originally adopted from.

"They told us they had found a home that was suitable for her," said Guinn Friedman, Director of Operations.

The Humane Society of Greater Savannah was Juicy's first home but little did officials know they would one day be caring for her again.

Friedman says the family who originally adopted Juicy in 2012 couldn't take care of her because she was too rowdy around their newborn child.

"Her original adopters found her a new home and sadly Juicy was just found abandoned in a home in Liberty County," said Friedman.

She says juicy was later adopted by Jonathan Jenson who is now facing animal cruelty charges after Juicy was found in frail condition.

"She was very weak and she had trouble holding her head up," said Friedman.

Friedman says Juicy weighs nearly 50 pounds less than her normal size but folks at the humane society are now trying to nurse her back to health.

"She is eating, she is gaining back her appetite," said Friedman. "We are taking it slow and she's just being monitored really closely."

Juicy will be back up for adoption in about a month when they believe she will be strong enough.

Right now, officials say her medical bills are piling up. If you would like to help Juicy, you can make a donation the Humane Society of Greater Savannah.
