HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Hilton Head residents, Dr. and Mrs. John Batson, are hosting the annual Hilton Head Heart Ball on Saturday, Feb. 1. The event will take place at the Hilton Head Island Marriott Resort and Spa.

Dr. Batson graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and completed internship and residency in Greenville, SC. He then completed dual fellowships in both Sports Medicine and Spine Pain Medicine. He is the only physician in the state of South Carolina to hold these dual board certifications. He has been in private practice for over five years. He owns Lowcountry Spine and Sport.

The ball will begin at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception and a silent auction. At 7 p.m., dinner will begin, followed by a live auction. More than 450 leaders from the community are expected to attend the event to raise funds to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular disease, the nation's number one killer.

The ball celebrates the American Heart Association's work and mission, and honors the donors and volunteers. Most importantly, it honors the lives saved and improved because of the collaborative effort. It promises to be an engaging evening of fun and passion, that will bring community and philanthropic leaders together.

Last year, the Hilton Head Heart Ball campaign raised over $165,000, allowing the American Heart Association to fund nearly $3 million of research and programs across South Carolina.

Event sponsors include Audi Hilton Head, Hilton Head Hospital, Charter One Realty, Coastal Pediatric Dentistry, Lowcountry Spine and Sport, May River Dermatology, Savannah Cardiology, Skin Path Solutions, TD Bank, Premier Physician Services and The Woodward Davis Real Estate Team and among others. Media sponsors include WSAV and Hilton Head Monthly.
