Ga. Ports director to give performance update

Posted: Updated:

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - The Georgia Ports Authority's chief executive plans to give an update on cargo volumes in the last six months of 2013.

Curtis Foltz was scheduled to give his midyear performance report to the Georgia Ports Authority's board of directors Monday morning.

The Port of Savannah, the nation's fourth busiest container port, has seen volumes of imports and exports hover at about 2.9 million containers each of the past three fiscal years. Numbers stayed relatively flat in fiscal 2013, which ended June 30, despite signs of economic recovery. Georgia port officials blamed threats of a dock workers' strike on the East Coast that caused shippers to divert thousands of containers from Asia to the West Coast.
