Area church collecting donations for homeless families

Posted: Updated:

As Coastal Georgia and the Lowcountry brace for yet another cold snap, one local church is stepping up to make sure those in need stay warm.

God's Eagle of Strength Ministry is asking for the public's help as they gather donations for the homeless before the bitter cold weather hits.

The church has already handed out 60 jackets and other necessities to the homeless, but with even colder weather on the way, they need the public's help to collect more items.

Donation items requested are clothes, blankets, tooth paste, food and anything that will help those in need get through these frigid temperatures to come. The church says this is what Christ would want them to do. A spokesperson for the church says the plan is to go back out this week near areas like President Street in downtown Savannah to hand out more donations, but their efforts will continue even after the weather warms back up because the need will always be there.

"Just because the cold weather's gone, they're still going to need more stuff. You know, other than that, hunger doesn't stop just because it's cold. But, the cold weather is the most important time of the year to try to do for them, but it won't stop," said Bernard Gamble, God's Eagle of Strength Ministry.

Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:

  • God's Eagle of Strength Ministry, 4211 Montgomery St, Savannah
  • M&B Tires, 1212 Mills B Lane Blvd, Savannah
  • Jj's Tire World, 3701 Ogeechee Rd, Savannah
