Snow, ice sleet expected this week in Carolinas

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings and watches for a wide swath of the Carolinas for a storm that will move through Tuesday and Wednesday.

Storm warnings have been posted from the Pee Dee and north coast of South Carolina northeast to the Outer Banks. Watches have been posted for the central and eastern part of North Carolina down into central Georgia. The watches and warnings take effect Tuesday.

The weather service in Morehead City, N.C., is predicting four to eight inches of snow in eastern North Carolina with some locally heavier amounts. In the central sections of South Carolina, snow and sleet accumulations of between 3 and 5 inches are forecast.
