HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that occurred on Hilton Head Island Sunday afternoon.

Sheriff's deputies responded to Pembroke Drive and US 278 in reference to shots fired. Witnesses reported seeing shots fired from a white SUV into a gray Chrysler 300 as the two vehicles traveled on US 278.

Deputies searched the area but were unable to make contact with either vehicle. Approximately two hours later, officers with the Bluffton Police Dept. responded to call at a house on Dubois Lane in reference to a vehicle damaged by gunfire.

When officers arrived at the property, a 49-year-old female reported that her rented gray Chrysler 300 had sustained damage consistent with gunshots.

Initially reports indicate the car sustained damage while parked in the yard, but it was later confirmed that the woman's 24-year-old daughter had been driving the car on Hilton Head when it was shot at by unknown suspects.

The woman's daughter said she received a call from a male friend asking her to pick him up from Hilton Head Gardens, located at 11 Southwood Park Dr.

Prior to her arrival, an argument occurred between her friend and two other unidentified males. After she picked up her friend, she was followed by subjects in a white SUV.

The occupants of the SUV then fired several rounds as they drove westbound on US 278. Both rear windows were shattered and damage was sustained to the windshield and vehicle body.

No suspects have been identified at this time. No injuries were reported.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office asks anyone with information to contact Cpl. D Seifert at 843.255.3414 or call Crimstoppers at 1.888.274.6372 or text TIPSC with a message to CRIMES (274637).
