Shoppers brace for snow in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

While the wait continued for the weather, the rush was on at Kroger.

"I'm here to get some batteries and some canned foods,'' said Lexi Polote, of Savannah. "I'll get some water, most definitely.''

The threat of snow and slippery roads in Savannah tomorrow had shoppers running to the Berwick Kroger today for supplies the homebound need most.

"Coffee. A lot of coffee,'' said Maria Cawley, of Pooler.

Her husband, Stafford, added, "Coffee and firewood.''

That's what Linda Price was looking for.

She shopped all day until hitting the lumber jackpot at Kroger.

"I started at WalMart and Lowe's in Bloomingdale,'' said Price, "Then I went to Home Depot, they didn't have anything. I went to several drug stores, they didn't have any fire logs so we came here.

"We have a handicapped son, so we have to make sure we're prepared for him and us. And we have two elderly neighbors, so I brought her with me.''

But not everyone was preparing for Savannah's snowpocalypse.

"I was born and raised in Illinois,'' said Faye Montgomery, who lives in Savannah. "So I'm not real worried.''

But with a full shopping cart, Price wasn't taking any chances.

"I've got some hot dogs, hamburgers, fruit, soda. I'm going to go ahead and cook a big pot of chili,'' said Price. "We live in the South and people here are not prepared for the snow. So we're going to huddle down and stay in.''
