HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

This week, we start with Providence Main Street in Huntsville. One driver wrote on See, Click, Fix that the road is so filled with potholes and cracks that it's unsafe, and that the whole road from Highway 72 to Monrovia Circle isn't clearly marked. Sometimes, that backs up traffic.

Huntsville Public Works took a look at the cracks and has now issued a work order. So, look for patches there soon

The city's traffic engineering department also says that Providence Main is scheduled for a streetscape project early this year with landscaping and new pavement markings. Crews have put down some new raised markings in the meantime.

Now, some new information now on a downtown Huntsville project we introduced you to last week - Washington Street. That project's still on.

Engineering Director Kathy Martin told me that the contractor has been working in phases to avoid too much traffic congestion downtown. Right now, crews are working at the intersection of Monroe and Washington. That should be finished in two to three weeks, weather permitting. Then, crews will put the final paving layer and striping at Clinton and Washington. The entire project should be finished by mid-February.
