As the winter storm makes its way through the area Tuesday night, almost all schools districts have cancelled classes for Wednesday, including Beaufort County, which was one of the last to do so.
It wasn't until noon that the district office made the decision to dismiss at their regular time. They cancelled all afternoon activities and all schools will be closed Wednesday.
They stand by the decision to wait despite some parents disagreeing with it.
Tuesday afternoon, cars and buses lined up the road to pick up students around the county.
Across the Lowcountry, the Jasper County School District has cancelled classes for both Wednesday and Thursday for students.
Both Hampton One and Two School Districts started dismissing students around 11:30 a.m. and have cancelled school Thursday.
No word yet on whether classes will resume Thursday in Hampton County.
"We were hoping we could get a day of instruction in. We were monitoring the weather right through this morning and based on what we were seeing, the temperatures indicated that they were going to be warm enough by the time school was out that we could finish the day," said Jim Foster, Beaufort County School District.
As for school on Thursday, the Beaufort County School District will make a decision no later than 4 p.m. Wednesday.
