GDOT mobilizes units to respond to road hazards

BLOOMINGDALE, GA (WTOC) -

Georgia Department of Transportation crews are standing by, ready to respond to all types of road hazards during this winter weather.

Here in the Southeast district, they have mobilized several units with a staging area in each of its 24 counties.

They have a total of 300 employees on call.

There is more than 200 tons of salt, 4,000 tons of gravel and at least 12 snow removal vehicles in the area. The employees will continue to monitor the roadways over night.

"[The employees] are out monitoring the roadways, and they will be monitoring 24 hours. They are wokring double shifts. We're also in collaberation with local law enforcement, GSP, so were working together to monitor the roadways," said Jill Nagel, a spokesperson with GDOT.

GDOT urges caution on the roadways and asks you to report any dangerous road conditions.
