Lowcountry traffic low as winter storm hits

Posted: Updated:
JASPER CO., SC (WTOC) -

People in the Lowcounty are take officials advice and staying off the road. WTOC First Alert Weather Team is expecting sleet and one to two inches of snow in Beaufort, Jasper and Hapton counties.

When the winter mix starts sticking to the roads and bridges, that is when road conditions will be very dangerous.

I-95 was practically empty Tuesday night. Semi-trucks are about all the road traffic tonight.

Tow truck drivers are also warning people not to drive, especially those who live out in rural areas. They say they're probably going to be responding to lots of wrecks on the main roads and I-95, which means if you get stuck in the rural areas it may take them longer than usual to get to you.

"These people are not going to stop driving on the interstate, so we are going to have wrecks on the interstate. We gotta cover all this area..so my advice to everybody is please stay home," said Keefe Blatchley of Blatchley Wrecker, Brake and Tire.

There are no bridges closed in the Lowcountry. Beaufort County officials say they may close some of their bridges depending on what happens with this storm.

Stay with WTOC for the latest on road closures and weather conditions.
