Families find ways to spend snow day

Posted: Updated:

There was no school, but there was a test.

Parents were tasked with finding some place warm and safe to occupy young minds.

"We've got kids, and they want to play and they like movies,'' said Ken Richards, of Savannah, who took his two children to Eisenhower Theater. "So we'll do a movie today and maybe do a movie this afternoon as well, depending on what's frozen.''

On a rare day when downtown Savannah wasn't inviting, even though parking wasn't a problem, many families looked for ways to spend time out of the house.

And while there were signs of the storm outside Monkey Joe's, inside was an answer to idle time and youthful energy.

"We were thinking, what can we do around the house,'' said Stacie Marlow of Savannah. "It's too cold, we can't go outside, it's dangerous. So rather than stay cooped up, this is the perfect place to come.''

"Well, we ran out of crafts to do at the house, so we had to come to Monkey Joe's,'' added Eric Thomas, of Savannah. "I called here this morning, they said they open at 11 a.m. and I said we'll be there at 11 a.m.''

While parents found ways to use their time while their kids bounced, the most useful benefit came when they left to go about the rest of their school-less day.

"I've got a two-year old and they're already rambunctious,'' said Amanda McGuire, who drove down from Effingham County with two friends and six children. "So, it'll be better to get them worn out.''

"They'll get worn out,'' added Thomas, "and go home and lay around the house.''

And start wondering what to do tomorrow.
