FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Emotions were high at a specially called meeting Wednesday in the Shoals.

The Florence-Lauderdale Tourism Board met to discuss changes made to recent legislation which could potentially change the future of tourism as a whole.

Board members said the changes are needed to legally incorporate the board, while others said there are too many changes and fear it will only damage the board and their success.

It took the board more than 30 minutes to vote after the motion was made, and the changes passed 3-1.

"I don't feel it was necessary. We've been very successful for 20 years and I feel like if it's not broke, don't fix it. In my opinion, some people in the city, especially some people on the city council want the money for other things," said board member Ernest Haygood.

The legislation will now go before both the City and County councils.
