Business impacted by winter storm

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Businesses across the Coastal Empire and the Lowcountry have been impacted by the winter storm, some shutting down early and others not opening at all.

The Oglethorpe Mall closed early Wednesday, shutting down around 5 p.m. The general manager says they had nearly 15 stores that stayed closed all day.

Employees at the mall say business has been hit hard these last couple of days because of the weather. They say there were few customers on Tuesday and employees were shocked that the mall was even open Wednesday.

"People want to stay home today," said Amanda Nesmith. "They don't want to come out in this."

Despite the cold, some folks decided to shop anyway especially teachers who had the day off.

Nancy Jew says she was hoping for some snow but when she got up this morning and realized that didn't happen, she decided to take advantage of a day outside of the classroom.

Jew went out for breakfast and then went shopping, but the problem was, not every store was open.

"That's nothing unusual, you know we are just not equipped for snow and ice," said Jew. "So we just get a little excited with the weather."
