Weather to improve in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Weather conditions are improving in South Carolina after snow and ice fell in the state earlier this week.

The National Weather Service warned motorists of possible icy roads, especially in the central and northeastern parts of the state. Forecasters say black ice is a possibility as standing water freezes on roads.

Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing by noon.

Electric utilities in the state reported no major problems Thursday morning.

The state transportation department reports some secondary roads are still covered with snow and ice. The Ravenel Bridge between Charleston and Mount Pleasant is still closed because of icy conditions.
