SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

General McIntosh Blvd. in downtown Savannah is back open after being closed due to an early morning shooting.

It happened around 3 a.m. Officials say a man in a car was traveling east on General McIntosh from downtown Savannah when another car opened fire. The driver of the car that was being shot at then lost control of his vehicle, hit a curb, flipped over and knocked down a palm tree before slamming into the guard station at the Marriott. Luckily, no guard was inside the station at the time.

The driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Metro has since released and update on the victim and say his injuries are minor and he is expected to survive.

WTOC spoke with Savannah-Chatham Metro about possible leads on a suspect.

"It appears that the shooter was in another car, and it appears this car may have been targeted. Now why, how, whether it was a car they meant to be shooting at, we don't know, so all of that is going to be part of the investigation," said Savannah-Chatham Metro spokesman Julian Miller.

Shell casing were found scattered all across General McIntosh Blvd. so Metro officers closed General McIntosh from East Broad Street down to President Street for a little over an hour to investigate, but reopened the stretch of road around 4:45 a.m.

The shooting is under investigation. If you know or saw anything, call police.
