Pedestrian struck and killed in downtown Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Police have still not released the name of a pedestrian hit and killed on East President Street near Woodcock Street in Savannah.

Police say the victim, only described as a black male at this time, was wearing dark clothing when the incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday night. They say the driver of a Ford F-150 was heading west on President Street near Pennsylvania Avenue when they struck the pedestrian as he was walking alongside the roadway.

The victim was transported to Memorial with life-threatening injuries where he later died, according to SCMPD spokesman Julian Miller.

There is no word yet on whether the driver will face any charges.
