Over the past two days, the Chatham County Sheriff's Office has received eight complaints of callers posing as the sheriff's office asking for money.

Callers have said they need to get a Green Dot money card and pay a contempt of court fine. The caller claims to be Chatham County Court Clerk Dan Massey. They've even set up a fake voicemail for Massey or they pretend to be a U.S. Marshal by the name of Anthony Johnson.

Last week, they were using the name of Chatham County Chief Deputy Roy Harris. Harris urges the public not to buy the cards and not to give the schemers any personal information.

"The IRS is not going to call and ask you information over the phone. The sheriff's office certainly is not - metro police. People down at our courthouse would not be doing that," Harris said.
