La Vergne police say drone spotted flying above neighborhood

Posted: Updated:

La Vergne police say they received a report of a drone flying over the Woodland Hills subdivision Thursday.

A drone is a remote-controlled flying object that often has a camera attached, allowing it to record images from the air.

Investigators say a Corvette was spotted in the area, and the drone may have been controlled from that car, perhaps taking video images of rooftops.

At this point, it's not clear whether that violates any law.

"With the technology of remote-controlled apparatus, helicopters, planes and the things that the people can buy at a hobby store, it's hard to say whether or not it would be considered illegal. Now, the actions of what the person is doing while he's using it is the thing in question," said La Vergne police Sgt. Brent Hatcher.

If you see a drone in La Vergne that is making you uncomfortable, police there would like you to contact them.
