Annual Great Backyard Bird Count at Fort Pulaski

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Bird watchers across the country are invited to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count.

Anyone from novices to expert bird watchers are invited to participate. All you need is a bird checklist, which can be picked up locally at the Fort Pulaski visitor center.

On one or more days of the event you count birds, for as long as 15 minutes or more if you wish. You report your sightings by returning the forms to Ranger Ron Calhoun at Fort Pulaski.

Each checklist submitted helps researchers at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society learn more about how birds are doing, and how to protect them.

The event is set for Feb. 15 through Feb. 17. The park will also be offering free admission on these dates in honor of Presidents Day weekend.
