Family, friends prepare to say goodbye to former Savannah mayor

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Family, friends and community leaders are all preparing to say a final goodbye to former Savannah Mayor Floyd Adams Jr. 

Adams was the city's first African-American mayor, serving two terms from 1996 through 2003, and as Alderman from 1982 to 1995. City officials say he unified racial, economic, and social barriers in the community. 

Adams died on Saturday at the age of 68, leaving behind a wife and two adult children. 

Visitation will be held Thursday at Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church from 6 to 8 p.m. 

The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church.
