In less than an hour, the Beaufort County School District is holding its first of five town hall meetings for its new attendance zones proposal.
Last week, the student services committee narrowed down the list to one choice Plan X. Now it's the public's turn to weigh on it. Plan X is a combination of the other proposals combined.
The Hilton Head Island High School where they will meet Monday night. Folks will meet to discuss the attendance zones proposal.
This could be a contentious meeting between Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Moss and folks who live within the moss creek-old south and the gatherings area.
It's the first of five town hall meetings to discuss the new attendance zones proposal. Right now those folks are zoned to Hilton Head schools.
Under Plan X, they would be rezoned to the Bluffton schools. Many parents have attended school board meetings as well as the last three attendance zones meetings in opposition of the plan.
They said it would impact their livelihood and argue it would double if not triple their commute time.
It would alleviate overcrowding in most of the schools by keeping them within target levels 74 to 89 percent.
