St. Gregory closer to frontage road plan

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

After years of fighting, St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton may finally get a frontage road along U.S. 278.

South Carolina Dept. of Health and Environmental Control issued a permit that says the construction of a frontage road will not hinder wetlands or impact water runoff in the area.

The road would connect St. Gregory the Great to the traffic light on Buckwalter Parkway at the Berkeley Hall entrance and the stoplight at the Bluffton Township Fire District.

"[It's] great news for us. We kind of got the word late last week and then all the information started forming through the media, which is great that the wetlands - there would be no significant impact for them," said Christopher Trott, principal of St. Gregory the Great Catholic School.

Unless Berkley Hall appeals this permit, Beaufort County officials can move forward with the project.
