Savannah man charged with theft

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police said that a Savannah man who accidentally shot his finger has been arrested Monday.

Alajuawon Williams, 23, shot his finger at about 2:55 p.m. Downtown Precinct Patrol officers responded to the area of Price Street and Duffy Lane. Williams told officers he was checking the weapon to assure it was not loaded when he accidentally pulled the trigger.

Williams was taken to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment and then was taken into custody.

Police said that violent crimes detectives determined the gun had been stolen. Williams was charged with theft by receiving stolen property.

The investigation is continuing.
