EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Effingham County went live with new safety improvements Tuesday morning.

The intersection of Blue Jay and Midland roads in Rincon is officially now a four-way stop. As a true 4 way stop, all traffic will be required to stop and check both directions for on-coming traffic before continuing ahead.

Flashing notice boards have informed motorist of the change for the past 6 days and Effingham County deputies have been monitoring the intersection and making motorist aware of the changing traffic control devices.

Effingham County Public Works Department crews will be onsite Tuesday installing twin high-intensity stop signs in each direction of the intersection and required stop ahead signs. The existing flashing signal will also be changed from two direction red to four direction red.

Rumble strips were installed on Midland Road and rumble strip improvements are also scheduled for Blue Jay Road in the coming days.

Motorists are encouraged to approach this intersection with caution as crews continue to work in the area. Deputies will remain on site monitoring traffic in the area for several days following the official change.

The county urges motorist to always drive with caution, be alert to changing conditions and always monitor your speed.
