Auburn High outside linebacker Rashaan Evans pulled a surprise and signed with the University of Alabama on Wednesday morning.
Evans, widely considered the top outside linebacker in high school football had narrowed his choices to the Crimson Tide, hometown Auburn, and UCLA.
He was the most hotly recruited player in the state of Alabama, with the climax of the pursuit coming last Saturday when coaches from both Alabama and Auburn showed up at the same time at his grandfather's 80th birthday party.
The signing of Evans boosts the Tide signing class, expected to be ranked No. 1 in the nation.
In his senior year at Auburn High, Evans had 77 tackles, with 43 for loss, as well as 17 1/2 sacks.
