GLENNVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

Surrounded by friends and supporters, State Rep. Delvis Dutton announced his plans to trade his political seat in Atlanta for a more powerful one in Washington.

Dutton announced his intention to run for Georgia's 12th congressional seat, currently held by Democrat John Barrow.

Dutton becomes the fourth Republican to enter the party race.

Rick Allen, John Stone, and Diane Vann are already seeking the party nomination in the November general election.

Dutton, serving his second two-year term in the Georgia legislature, touted reforms and change as parts of his platform.

"Washington is broken and we can't fix it by sending the same people back there," he explained. "Based on what we've done in the past four years to change the culture in Atlanta, we've gotten lots of calls for us to do this and I had to be obedient."

Candidates have until March 7 to qualify for elections in Georgia.
