BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

The 8th annual Beaufort Film Festival is less than a week away.

This year's festival will pay tribute to the 20th anniversary of "Forrest Gump".

As you may know, much of the beloved classic was shot in Beaufort County, as well as Savannah.

Some of the local cast members will make an appearance as well as Arthur Schmidt, who won the "Best Film Editing" Oscar for "Forrest Gump".

"Forrest Gump, of the 20 some-odd motion pictures that were filmed here, is the highest grossing of any of those, one of the highest grossing films in movie history, it's a very good movie that Beaufort's really proud of," said Ron Tucker, Executive Director of the Beaufort International Film Festival.

The festival will feature six screenplays and 28 independent films, 27 of those indie films are South Carolina premieres.

The opening ceremony starts on Feb. 12.
