RINCON, GA (WTOC) -

An investigation is underway after a motorcycle chase and crash left a father and former soldier dead.

Officials say Robert Sciria, 32, of Rincon, was fleeing upon site of a police officer on Frontage Road Wednesday evening when he wrecked his motorcycle off of GA-21 in front of the Westwood subdivision.

Rincon Police Chief Phillip Scholl said it was not a police chase.

According to his facebook page, Sciria worked at the Georgia Ports Authority. He was an Army veteran who served in Iraq and, according to a 2003 news article in Connecticut's Hartford Courant, Sciria was wounded by an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) while driving a Bradley tank south of Baghdad.

It was later determined that Sciria had no active warrants or any criminal history. Authorities continue to investigate the crash and why Sciria fled.

Sciria leaves behind a wife and one child.
