Restaurant Report Card: Philly Connection

Philly Connection in Snellville Philly Connection in Snellville
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Valentine's Day is a week away and if you plan to make dinner reservations you'll want to make sure your favorite restaurant passed its health inspection first.

CBS Atlanta News reports on the best and worst restaurant health inspection scores every Thursday night at 11 p.m.

This week, the Philly Connection on East Main Street in Gwinnett County failed a surprise inspection on Feb. 4. The Snellville restaurant scored 61 points and a "U" for unsatisfactory.

The report says an employee did not wash their hands after handling money. Plus, a worker placed onions in direct contact with raw steak and one of the employees failed to sanitize tongs before using them on chicken.

"Just bad training right now. So we're working on that. We've changed around the whole system and we've come up with a new plan," Philly Connection employee Dennis Cordero said.

Cordero said employees met with the health department the day after receiving a low score, but they still have some problems to solve. CBS Atlanta News noticed they did not have a certified food safety manager on site.

"Yeah he's on his way," Cordero said.

Management also posted the wrong inspection, misleading customers. They told us every employee will now undergo training.

"Everything is perfect so we're just waiting on the lady to come and give us a better grade," Cordero said.

There are several good scores around metro Atlanta, Applebee's at 4353 Lawrenceville Hwy. in Dekalb County scored a 96. In Clayton County, Taco Bell at 6865 Hwy. 85 in Riverdale picked up 97 points and in Fulton County, Figo Pasta at 1140 Hammond Dr. scored a 98.

Last but not least, The Capital Grille at 255 East Paces Ferry Rd. in Atlanta received an "A" and 100 points on their inspection and was the featured restaurant of the week.
