Union Mission looking to lease Starfish Cafe

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Starfish Café is still closed, but Union Mission is taking steps to find new management.

The Culinary Training Program was cut from the Union Mission budget, but they are still working on finding an interested party to take over the care.

Union Mission's Pat Monahan said a deal could not be worked out with SCAD, but talks continue with Savannah Technical College.

Union Mission will also start advertising Starfish Café as a private lease.

"I am hopeful because it is an important part of the community and it also should remain an important part of the training," said Monahan. "We have taken some of those students and in training at Starfish and moved them over to Grace House Kitchen for further training."

Starfish Café is the remaining piece of Union Mission budget cuts left, after diversion programs were transitioned to The Recovery Place of Savannah.
