Coosa Elementary students showcase leadership skills to community

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

Students at Coosa Eelementary are learning and exemplifying leadership skills at an early age.

From musical performances, leadership speeches, school tours and hospitality, the students were in charge of it all Friday.

This is the second year Coosa Elementary has hosted its leadership event, which is based on the "7 Habits of Highly Effective people."

Students and leaders were surprised at how successful it was.

"It makes you feel better if you lead people and you know that you're leading them to a good direction, we'll all have a better future," said Coosa Elementary 4th grader Javier Pinto.

"I'm blown away, these children were phenomenal, there was so much preparation made but more than that, you can see the children really owned what they were talking about, they really understood the concepts," added South Carolina State Rep. Shannon Erickson.

Each grade level also selects a service project to work on throughout the year.
