CCYC hosting driving clinic as part of Teen Driver Safety Week

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Chatham County Youth Commission, in partnership with the Chatham Counter Narcotics Team, will be kicking off National Teen Driver Safety Week by hosting a driving clinic for Chatham County High School students with valid permits.

CCYC has also partnered with State Farm Insurance Fear This, Inc., a non-profit group that provides advanced driver training, teaching teens accident avoidance skills.

The course is taught by Police Academy Instructors and it is the only program endorsed by the State of Georgia Insurance Commissioner.

A classroom course will be held on Feb. 27 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Civic Center Ballroom. The hands-on portion of the course will be held March 1 at Groves High School.

Pre-registration is required and can be found at http://www.fearthis4life.org/.

"We know that teens are at a greater risk during their first year of driving", said Van Johnson, Director of CCYC, in a statement.  "This clinic provides real life situations our teens won't face in the State required driver training program."

Thanks to a grant from State Farm Insurance, tuition has been reduced from $175.00 to $125.00.

To register your teen, visit the Fear This, Inc. website at http://www.fearthis4life.org/.

We invite you to ride along with our instructors to see first-hand what our teens will be experiencing. If you'd like to schedule a ride along experience for your coverage, please contact Leigh Herald, CCYC Advisor, at lherald@chathamcounty.org or 912.272.3592.
