Thousands of Girl Scout cookies arrive for national awareness day

Posted: Updated:

National Girl Scout Cookie weekend has officially kicked off.

Thousands of cases of Girl Scout Cookies have arrived to the Savannah area. Volunteers gathered at a local warehouse on Saturday to distribute cases to troops, who will then deliver preorders and hold cookie booths throughout the area.

The Classic Thin Mints and Samoas along with new favorites like the Savannah Smiles are available for purchase.

Rain or shine, the girls say this is a popular time of the year for the scouts and their cookie operation.

"It's cookie season. They don't care, they just want their cookies to get them to the girls so they can sell." said Jessica Dial, Director of Product Sales for Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia.

To find a Girl Scout stand near you, download the Cookie Finder app available for iPhone and Android.

The Girl Scouts began selling cookies in 1917.
