American Red Cross providing help for firefighters during fire

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, The American Red Cross Chatham County Disaster Action Team headed back to their chapter office. They spent around seven hours on the scene of the Georgia Ports Warehouse fire.

The Red Cross provided two meals, water, and snacks for 60-80 response workers. Because of the amount of water and foam used during the response, many firefighters needed dry socks. The American Red Cross would like to thank the Dollar General store located on Bay Street for graciously donating 100 pairs socks to the Red Cross to distribute to the response workers. As the responders continue to oversee the operation, the Garden City Waffle House is donating coffee.

The operation is ongoing, therefore the Red Cross Disaster Action Team will remain on standby for support on Sunday.

The Red Cross encourages the public to join in support of assisting disaster victims  by becoming volunteers or making a financial donation to the American Red Cross at 41 Park of Commerce Way, Building 200, Savannah, GA  31405 call (912) 651-5300.
