Former Metro officer Malik Khaalis arrested, 9 felony charges

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Former Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Sgt. Malik Khaalis was arrested on Sunday and is being held without bond in Chatham County Jail.

He was arrested at about 1:20 p.m. on nine felony charges, including seven accounts of false statements and writing, and two accounts of violation of oath by public officer.
 
Khaalis was indicted last month on those charges. At the time, he was serving overseas with the Air Force Reserve and on unpaid military leave from metro police.
 
Khaalis has resigned his position with metro, but Chief Tolbert has not accepted his resignation.
