21 year-old Elizabeth Lohmar was an energetic and hard working young college student at VSU.

That's what her soccer coach remembers most about her.

"She was one of our starters," said Mel Heinz, VSU Women's Soccer Coach. "Off the field, she had the same personality. Just hard working and good to everybody."

Lohmar passed away Saturday from injuries she received after being hit by a truck on Wednesday while legally using a crosswalk to cross the street at the intersection of North Patterson and College Street.

"Through the week, after the accident happened, we were all prayin' hard and we really thought that she would come through. She's a fighter," Heinz explained.

The driver of the truck, 21 year-old Michael Laslie, was attempting to turn South onto Patterson Street when he hit Lohmar.

Heinz was deeply saddened when she learned that Lohmar had passed away.

"Just sad. She's a 21 year-old that is just so talented, so great," Heinz remembered.

Lohmar's teammate and life-long friend, Abbie Edwards, echo's this sadness.

"To hear that we'd lost an amazing girl like that, it was just really hard to take in," admitted Edwards.

A loss that has created a feeling of emptiness for the soccer team.

"We are gonna have a hole," Heinz said.

But that hole will be filled with the memories of Lizzie.

"Every time I step onto the field now, I'll think of her and all the hard work we did out here and I think she'll always be with us, always be watching us," Edwards said. "I'll always be able to hear her silly little laugh. Oh My Gosh, her laugh was contagious. We'll always have her here with us, no matter what."

Even though she is gone, Lizzie is still very much a par of the team.

Lohmar's family is asking that people not send them flowers, instead that they make a donation to the math department at VSU.
