ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta became paralyzed by 2 inches of snow last month, but state and local officials are determined to not let that happen when another round of winter weather begins Tuesday.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and other officials faced tough criticism for poor preparations ahead of the Jan. 28 storm. This time, schools have been canceled in advance and state employees have been told they can stay home if they feel conditions are too dangerous.

Before a single drop of freezing rain or snow fell, Deal on Monday declared a state of emergency for nearly a third of the state and urged the public not to be caught off guard again.
