Treasure hunter shows off booty in Albany

A treasure hunter showed off some precious metals Tuesday night in Albany.

SCUBA diver Mike Brown recovered a world record coin, gold, silver, and jewelry from the wreckage of a 1715 Spanish fleet. Eleven of the 12 ships in the fleet sank in a hurricane near Port Canaveral and Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Brown says he has a passion for what he does. "I do it because it's really rewarding. Granted, you don't get to own most of what you bring up. Every once in a while we are allowed to keep something from the state, but it's very rewarding to recover history that has been lost, and if we didn't find it and bring it up. It would be lost forever."

Brown spoke to the Albany Dive Club at Adventure Dive Center.
