The Candler County Commission Chairman Glyn Thrift declared a local state of emergency for the county at 2 p.m.
The declaration was implemented in an effort to protect the health, safety, and welfare of residents during the winter weather event. It allows for the activation of the local emergency operations plan, the registration of building and repair services, authority to close or restrict certain access, enforce curfews.
A pine tree is lying across someone's front yard in
Metter. The tree not only knocked their power out, but its blocking in their
car and front door.
As the weather continues to get colder, more trees
are likely to fall.
"Turn the head up high. Really high basically -
just turn the head up and just stay inside. That's the best thing and if you
must go out. If its mandatory that you go out, cover up because anything that's
exposed is going to get cold," said Vanessa Coates.
