Cats remain quarantined at Savannah-Chatham Metro Animal Control

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Seventeen cats remain in quarantine at the Savannah-Chatham Metro Animal Controla after becoming ill with respiratory problems and other problems.

While those cats are being treated and evaluated by vets, other cats and kittens are healthy and still adoptable. However, no adoptions will take place until the three week treatment period is over.

"We have to be very vigilant, in if we hear someone sneeze or cough, in making sure we are on top of the situation," said Christina Sutherin of the SCMAC. "The proper quarantine procedures are in place. Just for the benefit of the other animals, for the benefit of the public coming through as well, so they are not taking anything home to their own personal pets from an adopted animal from here."

If some cats pose a risk to the healthy cats, or aren't doing well, they will be euthanized to prevent the spread of disease.
