SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A former Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police officer appeared in recorder's court Thursday morning.

Sgt. Malik Khaalis, 40, was arrested Saturday. He is charged with seven counts of making an official false statement and two counts of violation of oath by public officer.

He was indicted last month, but wasn't arrested until when he returned from serving overseas with the Air Force Reserve.

Khaalis has now been granted at $20,000. It had been under consideration. Special conditions of the bond also outlined that Khaalis is not to contact any of some 15 potential state's witnesses while at liberty, according to the Chatham County District Attorney's Office.

No future court date has been set yet. As of now, Khaalis still on unpaid leave from Metro Police.
